Donald Trump has announced he will declare North Korea a state sponsor of terror.
The US president said it was a long overdue step and part of the US ‘maximum pressure campaign’ against Kim Jong Un.
It will impose further penalties on North Korea, which has seen steadily escalating tensions with the US since Trump came to power.
The country was previously on the list of countries the US views as state sponsors of terror.
It was taken off the list in 2008 in a bid to salvage a deal to halt its nuclear development.

‘In addition to threatening the world by nuclear devastation, North Korea has repeatedly supported acts of international terrorism including assassinations on foreign soil,’ Trump said during a Cabinet meeting.

US officials cited the killing of North Korean leader Kim Jong Un’s estranged half brother in a Malaysian airport this year as an act of terrorism.
North Korea would join Iran, Sudan and Syria on the list of state sponsors of terror.
