Raped, branded or beaten repeatedly, more than 50 men from Sri Lanka’s Tamil ethnic minority say they were abducted and tortured under the country’s current government.
Previously unpublished accounts from the victims themselves highlight the affect of a bloody civil war in the country that ended in 2009
The 26-year war was fought between the Liberation Tigers of Tamil Eelam, who were fighting for an independent homeland for the Tamil minority, and the Sinhalese-dominated government.
The Tigers, as they were known, were designated as a terrorist organisation after a wave of suicide bombings.
The government’s forces were also accused of targeting civilians, which is considered a war crime under international law.
International rights groups say the current government has done little to investigate the alleged war crimes.
Sri Lankan authorities deny the allegations.
